On May 26, 2021, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Afghan Taliban organization) issued a statement warning Afghanistan s neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, not to provide military bases to U.S. for future counter-terrorism missions.[1] Titled Statement Of The Islamic Emirate Regarding Reports About Establishment Of American Bases In The Region, it was published by one of the official websites of the Islamic Emirate.[2]

Just because we are removing our troops and ending our military mission in Afghanistan doesn t mean that we re walking away from the region, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters.[3]
