Man sues San Leandro police after altercation at haunted house caused alleged injuries

A federal lawsuit alleges that San Leandro police overreacted to an altercation in a Halloween haunted house, tackling a man and causing serious knee injuries.
The suit, filed in federal court in Oakland, accuses the San Leandro Police Department of violating the civil rights of Jonathan Guidel, 27, who lives in Santa Clara County, as well as battery, negligence and infliction of emotional distress.
San Leandro officials investigated the incident last year when Guidel’s attorney filed a claim against the city, a legal precursor to suing, and decided it was without merit, city spokesman Paul Sanftner said.
