The ups and downs of Hawke s Bay United s 16-year history were encapsulated in their final match of the season, and as a franchise. United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Eastern Suburbs at Bluewater Stadium in Napier on Wednesday night – signalling the end of an era for football in the region.
The narrow defeat meant HBU finished the campaign in seventh place in the ISPS Men s Handa Premiership table – six points adrift of the playoffs.
Tributes have been paid to a student and a doctor who lost their lives in a crash with a livestock lorry in Yorkshire last week.
Oliver Louis Knott, 21, and Maisie Jade Ryan, 27, were both killed after a lorry carrying livestock crashed into their cars on the A65 near Ilkley on February 18.
Following their devastating deaths, tributes to brilliant doctor Maisie and kindhearted student Oliver have poured in from all corners of the country.
A Just Giving page has been set up in memory of Maisie which has already raised more than £11,000 for charity.
