Hundreds of people gathered on Sunday for the rally in front of the courthouse in downtown Minneapolis where a month ago former policeman Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering the black man by kneeling on his neck.

Alexis Cannon held a grand opening ceremony May 15 for Lexish Boutique

When it comes to fashion, Alexis Cannon is serious about choosing the right pair of jeans. And that is why the Shelby native is bringing her love for denim to Cleveland County. Cannon held a grand opening for her clothing store, Lexish Boutique, Saturday, May 15, and said her shop is a way to pay it forward to fashionistas in the community. “We don’t have a lot of large stores, and we don’t have a lot of boutiques,” said Cannon. “I see Shelby is trying to grow, and I want to grow with it.” Cannon was introduced to the fashion industry when she signed up to be a part of a modeling group while attending Fayetteville State University. Ultimately, she realized it wasn’t ripping the catwalk that gave her a sense of self. It was the transformation process from backstage to the runway that gave her a thrill.
