FSU trustees approve $12,400 to lease home for chancellor-elect

As with all UNC System chancellors, Allison’s contract provides him the use of a car and residence in addition to his $285,000 per year salary. Allison will officially take the school’s top leadership post on March 15, but Interim Chancellor Dr. Peggy Valentine will need to move out of the house the school keeps for the school’s chancellor before Allison and his family can take residence. Time is also needed  to make any repairs or renovations, Vice Chancellor for for Business and Finance Carlton Spellman told board members Tuesday. Darrell Allison was elected by the University of North Carolina System board of governors to become the 12th chancellor to serve Fayetteville’s historically Black university. He starts next Monday.

Fayetteville State University Chancellor-elect Darrell Allison has pushed back against rumors the school would change its name to the University of North Carolina at Fayetteville. In a Wednesday interview, he said it would not be something he would support unless it came from “internal” stakeholders the Bronco alumni, students and faculty. “I am an HBCU graduate,” said Allison, who completed his undergraduate work at N.C. Central University in Durham.  He added, “A proud graduate of an HBCU,” placing emphasis on the word “proud.” Allison said if a name change were to be pushed on FSU by external forces, “I will quickly go put on my jogging pants, my boots and I will be on the front lines to actively resist that effort.”

A L Brown grad named Chancellor of Fayetteville State University

From Staff Reports Darrell Allison, a 1990 graduate of A.L. Brown High School, has been named the 12th chancellor of Fayetteville State University, the school announced in a news release. Allison has been serving the University of North Carolina Board of Governors since 2017 after being nominated by UNC System President Peter Hans. He is currently the vice president of governmental affairs and state teams at the American Federation for Children. “Darrell Allison is a creative leader who understands the value of Fayetteville State University to the community, the region, and the state,” Hans said in a news release. He continued: “Darrell’s expansive career in education and service to the UNC System has been important to this state, and especially our HBCUs.
