(KWNO)- Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) is reporting no new COVID-19 cases since completing their learning model change late last month.
“That just kind of goes to show how closely we are following the protocols here,” said WAPS Communications Coordinator John Casper. “That also is a credit to the community. As I’ve said before, if cases are low in the community chances are [COVID-19] won’t get into our schools either.”
Grades K-5 are receiving full in-person instruction five days per week and grades 6-12 are in hybrid form. COVID-19 cases in the community, a key factor in dictating learning models, continue to trend down.

(KWNO)- Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) teachers and staff were given nine slots at the Olmsted County COVID-19 vaccination pilot site last week.
That’s according to WAPS Communications Coordinator John Casper. He told KWNO that several WAPS staff members who have jobs in healthcare along with their role in the district, are 65 or older or, have underlying health conditions have been vaccinated.
Casper said he’s unsure how many slots the district will get this week and that WAPS will share vaccination information in the coming days. The vaccinations come as grades 2-4 return to in-person instruction Wednesday and grades 6-12 shift into hybrid learning starting Thursday.
