WSHS principal takes new job; WAPS hiring (5/7/2021)
Winona Senior High School (WSHS) Principal Mark Anderson will soon step down from his current position to serve as principal of Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls, Minn. He will start serving in his new role this July.
Anderson has been with the district for over a decade, serving as Winona Middle School principal before moving to the high school in 2016.
Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) Board member Karl Sonneman said at the board’s May 6 meeting that he would like board members to play more of a role in and have additional oversight of the hiring process for WSHS’s next principal. MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Mankato Area Public Schools will soon be expanding their agriculture education thanks to a local donation that provides multi-year funds for new positions.
Superintendent Paul Peterson said the money will accelerate the districtâs work in developing the program.
âThis is a really big deal, because itâs such a great alignment to the region which we live, you know the green seam here in Minnesota and across the upper Midwest,â Peterson said. âAs an educational institution, we really believe that itâs really, really important that students have learning opportunities that link up to the environments in which theyâre living in.â

Two years ago, State Road Elementary and Tomek-Eastern Elementary added therapy dogs to their team. Buddy and Charlie have been wonderful additions to each school helping both students and staff cope with the stresses of everyday life. The research behind therapy pets points to many tangible and intangible benefits as they assist in alleviating stress and anxiety that many of our students experience, especially during this pandemic. Taking the lead from our first two Paw Patrol team members, Fenton High School has now adopted three dogs, one of whom will be splitting time at both the high school and AGS Middle School.
