Beverley Wildeboer’s husband Julio called the NHS non-emergency line in April 2017 after a pain across his wife’s shoulders spread to her chest.  The year before, Mrs Wildeboer, of Braydon Manor, near Purton, had been diagnosed with rare condition neuromyelitis optica, causing damage to the spinal cord and eyes.  She was wheelchair bound and, in 2005, had stent fitted after a heart attack.

Beverley Wildeboer’s husband Julio called the NHS non-emergency line in April 2017 after a pain across his wife’s shoulders spread to her chest.  The year before, Mrs Wildeboer, of Braydon Manor, near Purton, had been diagnosed with rare condition neuromyelitis optica, causing damage to the spinal cord and eyes.  She was wheelchair bound and, in 2005, had stent fitted after a heart attack.  Mr Wildeboer spoke to the health advisor at NHS 111 and was transferred to a clinical adviser who asked him to go through Beverley’s symptoms again. 

The one Hampshire pub unaffected by the restrictions - and you can find it in a Hythe care home

THIS year, a quick pint down the pub is very different to what most of us knew before the coronavirus pandemic. Restrictions and guidance in place to protect staff and visitors means that - at the moment - you can sit in a pub garden on a table of up to six or two different households. But one pub in Hampshire has been unaffected by the restrictions - and you can find it in a Hythe care home. The Carpathia Arms has been operating at Care UK’s Carpathia Grange care home, on Southampton Road, and pulling pints for residents throughout lockdown.

Dr Polly Russell Debbie Winwood, Home Manager at Mountbatten Grange, added: “Everyone had a wonderful time learning about each dish from our specially created menu, and reminiscing on their favourite memories of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. “At a time when so many of us are longing to visit our favourite restaurant, we thought we’d treat residents at Mountbatten Grange to enjoy just that. With a seven-course tasting menu prepared by our highly-skilled head chef, and a bespoke interactive session led by a nationally acknowledged expert, the residents really were able to enjoy a fine dining experience like no other.
