State to oppose bail application for employee accused of R2m theft

DURBAN - THE State intends to oppose the bail application of a G4S Cash Solutions employee accused of stealing R2.4 million from his employer.
Sihle Lungisani Ngcobo, 32, appeared in the Durban Magistrateâs Court on Monday where his matter was adjourned until June 8 for a formal bail application.
National Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said Ngcobo, from KwaDukuza, was arrested by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for the alleged theft.
âIn December 2019, Ngcobo, an employee at G4S, allegedly stole R2.4m from the G4S Cash Solutions depot in Westville. A case was opened, which prompted the Hawksâ investigation,â Mogale said.

A security
guard who allegedly stole several millions of rands belonging to his employer
is expected to bring a formal bail application this week.
Josiah
Marietta Lekgoathi, 45, made his first appearance in the Kempton Park
Magistrates Court on Monday.
Lekgoathi
faces a charge of theft.
It is
alleged that on 5 April, Lekgoathi was on duty with his two other colleagues
conducting money drop-offs and pickups from various ATMs around Selby,
Johannesburg. The
trio later returned to the company base in Edenvale with the remaining money.

ZIMBABWE’S lax security at ports of entry and airports has come under spotlight again after Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president Henrietta Rushwaya’s ex-aide was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa while attempting to smuggle gold worth over US$780 000.
The suspect, Tashinga Nyasha Masinire (33), was yesterday granted R100 000 bail coupled with stringent reporting conditions by a Kempton Park regional magistrate in Gauteng province.
He was ordered to surrender his passport, not to leave South Africa before the finalisation of the matter and to report at the nearest police station three times a week.
The matter was remanded to July 1, 2021.
