KIRKLEES is among eight places across the country where people are being urged against all but essential travel in and out of the area. It s in a bid to bring the Indian variant of Covid-19 under control, with Kirklees one of the areas where it is spreading the fastest. Latest figures show it has the fourth highest infection rate in the country, behind  Bolton, Blackburn with Darwen and Bedford. The other areas identified are: Bedford Borough Council; Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council; Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council; Burnley Borough Council; Leicester City Council; London Borough of Hounslow; North Tyneside Council.  The Government advice states: The new Covid-19 variant spreads more easily from person to person. To help stop the spread, you should take particular caution when meeting anyone outside your household or support bubble.

Police, along with officers from the council s selective licensing department have been made aware of a number of homes on Whalley Street in Burnley being used illegally as hotels and Airbnbs. On Friday, PCSO Sam Baysal from Daneshouse and Stoneyholme and licensing officer Patricia Dean from Burnley Borough Council, made a number of checks on properties within the area of concern. Angry woman pulled knife on terrified council contact centre worker

St James Street and Parker Lane in Burnley town centre where work continues improving the paving for the town centre. A MEMBER of staff at a Burnley Council contact centre was threatened with a knife by a disgruntled client. Blackburn magistrates heard Marie Ann Coats pointed the weapon at the officer s abdomen and said; I m going to have to get the information somehow. Coats, 39, of Cumberland Avenue, Burnley, was convicted in her absence of using threatening behaviour and possession of a knife. She was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced on June 7. Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said the incident happened in the |Burnley Borough Council contact centre on Harper Lane. Coats had been in the centre seeking advice and was still there when it came to closing time.
