Attempted highway rapist goes to prison; victim thanks NJ rescuer
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, after admitting to trying to rape a woman along the side of a highway in Mount Laurel.
At Thursday s court proceeding, the intended victim of 54-year-old Donald Cramer also got to finally meet the Good Samaritan who saved her, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor s Office.
Cramer must serve more than 15 years of the term before becoming eligible for parole, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said.
The sentence handed down by a Burlington County Superior Court judge was the result of a plea deal, as Cramer pled guilty in September to first-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, met Bishop after Thursday s sentencing hearing. She and her husband said they were extremely grateful for his courageous and selfless actions, the prosecutor s office said in a statement.
“It was a privilege to see this emotional meeting between this brave survivor and the gentleman who put himself in harm’s way to rescue her from this awful attack,” Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said in a statement.
The Congressional Medal of Honor Society last year announced Bishop was among 27 finalists for its Citizens Honor Awards.
Cramer previously admitted guilt to attempted aggravated sexual assault. He must serve more than 15 years before parole eligibility under the sentence imposed by Superior Court Judge Gerard Breland in Mount Holly.

A man who tried to sexually assault a woman who was walking along a Burlington County highway before being stopped by a good Samaritan was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in state prison, authorities said.
The woman was walking along Route 73 in Mount Laurel on the afternoon of June 6, 2019, when Cramer grabbed her and pulled her to a wooded section near the I-295 northbound exit ramp, the office said.
MAPLE SHADE – Two township residents are accused of supplying the methamphetamine that caused a Medford man’s fatal overdose.
Joshua Lanigan, 39, and Jeanine Hughes, 44, are charged with strict liability for drug-induced death in connection with a deadly incident last year, said the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
The overdose victim, 38-year-old Andrew Shelley, was found dead March 18 by a hiker in a wooded area off Route 70 in Medford, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Shelley’ family had reported him missing on Feb. 18, it said.
An obituary described Shelley as someone who loved being by the ocean and out in the wilderness, fishing, boating, riding bikes, traveling, and spending time with his family.
