After all, families have endured more than a year of a global pandemic.
Some moms have played the role of remote learning instructor or instructional aide in addition to the plethora of jobs they already accomplish each day.
May 9 is a chance to pay tribute to all the moms out there. (And many of them are tired of takeout, by the way.)
If you don’t want to cook or can’t cook, consider treating Mom (and maybe grandma) to brunch.
There are quite a few restaurants throughout South Jersey offering brunch on Mother’s Day. They sound simply delightful, too. Have you heard of Upright French toast? How does a seafood omelet sound? Or high tea at noon with a Craisin and white chocolate scone?
Two bridges over the Delaware. Two jumpers. A late middle-aged man from Philadelphia, a senior citizen from Levittown. One lived, one died. It was Feb. 28, slack tide on a cold, cloudy Sunday.
The first came at sunrise, about 6:30 a.m., at the Tacony-Palmyra. The second, three hours later at the Burlington-Bristol.
“There is no family relation and no family connection that we could discern between the two,” said Patrick Reilly, director of public safety for the Burlington County Bridge Commission that owns and operates both spans.
The bridge commission, which also has the Riverside-Delanco and some minor inland spans in Burlington County, is too familiar with such tragedies on the river.

Below is a statement from the Burlington County Bridge Commission Police Department:
Burlington County Bridge Police Department were alerted that someone had left their vehicle mid-span and possibly went over the railing into the Delaware River. Officers Phillip Landell and Rodney Hubbs immediately responded and located the abandoned Hyundai vehicle. A search of the below waters revealed the woman who appeared unconscious and moving with the river’s tide. At that point, various departments with a boat were contacted to respond and assist.
The Croydon Fire Department responded to the scene with a boat and was able to locate the body. They transported her to the New Jersey side where members of the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad attempted to render medical aid however they were unsuccessful. The Burlington County Medical Examiners subsequently responded and pronounced the woman deceased at 11:25 a.m.

Based on comments posted to the FreightWaves Facebook page, there are more bridges that wrack the nerves of some truckers and other drivers, especially during rough weather.
Williamsburg Bridge
The Williamsburg Bridge is a suspension bridge in New York City. It crosses the East River, connecting the Lower East Side of Manhattan with Interstate 278 in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Completed in 1903, it was the longest suspension bridge span in the world until 1924.
“You want scary? Drive an overweight truck over the Williamsburg Bridge to Manhattan,” former big rig driver Robert Bauer said. “I did it my whole career.”
