Former TNRD CAO Sukh Gill. More than a half-million dollars was charged to Gill’s taxpayer-funded credit card in the five years before he left the regional district under murky circumstances, including a large amount at restaurants, coffee shops and liquor stores. Since Gill’s departure from the regional district, he had remained on Thompson Rivers University’s board of governors. The board of governors oversees legal and financial matters related to university governance. Gill was chair of three finance-related standing committees, including finance, audit and an advisory committee on investments. Some Kamloops residents called for Gill’s removal from the board prior to his resignation, via letters to the university and the province, which appointed Gill to the board. On Tuesday, TRU’s senior communications consultant Todd Hauptman said the university was “aware of the situation, but will not be offering comment at this time.”
