CHARLESTON â West Virginiaâs four VA medical centers were named in a nationwide lawsuit filed in federal court last week alleging a number of facilities have not responded to public information requests seeking wait times and other records related to patient care.
The lawsuit claims the four hospitals are among 14 veteran health care facilities ducking Freedom of Information Act requests filed by Americans For Prosperity, a political advocacy group. The foundation filed the lawsuit last Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, naming the federal Department of Veterans Affairs and listing the four centers within the 26-page complaint.

During his 12 years in Congress, Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., has seen the Department of Veterans Affairs budget balloon from $94 billion in 2008 to $240 billion this year. But as he prepares to retire, he has lingering doubts about how well the money was spent. Throwing more money at something doesn t mean you get a better outcome, Roe, who will go home to Johnson City, Tennessee, when the new Congress is sworn in next month, cautioned the incoming Biden administration.
