Rowan Offers Incentives to Get Vaccinated
May 7, 6:15 a.m. Rowan University has announced a vaccine requirement for students who live or study on campus, and some incentives for getting the vaccine,
“Our message today is simple. We believe the path to normalcy is through widespread vaccination and we want our entire community to commit to reaching the goal of widespread vaccination,” Rowan president Ali A. Houshmand said in a letter. “If we work together, we can reach this goal and offer the Rowan University experience that our students and employees deserve.”

Since Rutgers became the first college in America to require that every student be vaccinated against COVID before returning to campus this fall, more than a hundred others have jumped on board – including nearly a dozen colleges in New Jersey.
This growing movement to require the shot could help vaccinate tens of millions of college-age Americans if all universities follow suit. That matters, because the more we allow the virus to circulate, the greater the chance that new variants could pop up that are more contagious, dangerous, or difficult to inoculate against.
A slew of colleges and universities are embracing COVID vaccine mandates, telling students if they want to attend classes on campus, they’ll need to be vaccinated.
Meanwhile, a look at job postings across the country reveals many employers are requiring job candidates to get vaccinated, or promise to get vaccinated within 30 days of hire.
Whether you’re a job hunter or a college student, you may soon face the prospect that your future plans could hinge on your willingness to get the COVID vaccine. But can colleges and employers legally require it? The answer is … complicated.
