The Senate yesterday passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
Also passed was a bill for the establishment of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Suleja.
The passage of both bills followed the consideration of two separate reports by the Committees on Health (Secondary and Tertiary); and Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, said the passage of the bill seeking to establish the University of Medical Sciences, Otukpo, would give legal backing to the institution which is already in existence.
“The Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo is already in existence but needs legal backing to effectively carry out its mandates”, Oloriegbe said.

LAHORE: The 46th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani.
The top statutory body approved selection boards for appointment on key posts of the controller of examinations and registrar.
Other members who attended included UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Javed Akram, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Maroof Aziz, Prof. Anwar A. Khan and additional secretary Punjab Finance department while Prof. Saleema Hashmi, PTI MNA Andelib Abbas and additional secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education department Usman Khalid attended the meeting via video link. UHS Registrar Dr Asad Zaheer and Treasurer Baqi Bin Hanif were also present on the occasion.

Metabolic activators were found to reduce recovery time by as many as 3.5 days in patients with mild-to-moderate Covid-19, according to a Swedish-British study published today in
Advanced Science.
The researchers also found that treatment with the metabolic activators improved liver health and decreased the levels of inflammation, as shown by inflammatory markers.
Conducted by researchers at Science for Life Laboratory at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, in collaboration with the Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg and King s College, London, the human phase three clinical study showed that patients with mild-to-moderate Covid-19 who were also receiving standard care experienced a 3.5 day reduction in recovery time when receiving the combination of metabolic activators, nicotinamide riboside (NR), L-serine, N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), and L-carnitine tartrate.
