The public is invited to the event from 5-7 p.m. at Vimbo’s Restaurant and Lounge. Free appetizers and beverages will be served. UW President Ed Seidel will be in attendance and speak during a brief program at the celebration, highlighting the university’s efforts to boost entrepreneurism and the state’s economy, among other topics.

U of Illinois official to be next U of Iowa president

May 3, 2021 Iowa City, Ia (AP) The University of Iowa’s governing board has picked the University of Illinois System’s No. 2 official to be the Iowa City school’s next president, opting for an experienced academic leader to succeed a president came to the position with a business background. Feedback indicates wide support for new UI president, unlike predecessor

5/2/21 New University of Iowa president Barbara Wilson is already proving to be much more popular than her predecessor. That’s according to feedback released by the Iowa Board of Regents following the announcement of Wilson’s hiring on Friday. Of the 320 people who submitted feedback…including faculty, staff, students and other community members…Wilson had an 80% approval rating. That’s the highest among the four finalists interviewed by the Regents. Wendy F. Hensel, Georgia State University provost, had a 73% approval rating, while Penn State Law Dean Hari Osofsky received a 63% positive rating. The only candidate with a negative rating from respondents was UI College of Education dean Dan Clay, who earned only a 36% approval rating.
