QUITO, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Ecuadorean voters struggling under a battered economy are leaning toward a return to socialism in February s presidential vote, as nostalgia for better times under former leftist president Rafael Correa has pushed one of his proteges into the lead.
Economist Andres Arauz, 35, is promising to revive the heavy social spending of Correa s decade in power and to tear up an IMF-backed austerity plan that has been made more painful by the coronavirus pandemic.
Ecuadorean bonds tumbled this month on the fiery rhetoric from Arauz, who has also proposed giving $1,000 to a million families within the first week of taking office.

Bonnie Peterson is a textile artist investigating environmental and social issues. Recently, she worked with scientists studying fire ecology, atmospheric science, and lake chemistry to make artwork about climate science. She was an artist-in-residence at Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, Isle Royale, and Crater Lake National Parks. Her work is in the collection of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and in many private collections. Peterson has an extensive exhibition and grant funding record including four individual artist grants from the Illinois Arts Council, a grant from the Illinois Committee of the National Museum of Women

Farmers wishing to improve the health of their soils are often presented with a list of specific management practices to implement.
“There are many types of management to combine to manage soil health,” said Jordon Wade, from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. “These typically include: keeping the soil covered, minimizing soil disturbance, keeping plants growing throughout the year, having a diversity of plants, and incorporating livestock.”
Wade was a recent speaker for Ohio State’s “The Dirt on Soil Health” series featuring a discussion findings from his research looking at the relationship between improving soil health and increasing yields. As farmers evaluate their soils, there are three areas to assess.
