“I have known Senator Turner for decades, from her time of service on the County Board, City Council, and now as Senator for Springfield and Sangamon County, Langfelder said in the statement. Even though she is leaving her seat at the City Council, we look forward to continuing our work together on issues important to Springfield.”

Three alumni have been appointed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker to the University of Illinois System Board of Trustees.
The governor on Friday named finance executive Ramón Cepeda, banking executive Sarah Phalen and agricultural communicator Tami Craig Schilling to six-year terms on the board, pending approval of the Illinois Senate. This will be Cepeda’s second term as a trustee.
“I am pleased to welcome Sarah Phalen and Tami Craig Schilling to the Board of Trustees and am delighted that Ramón Cepeda will serve a second term,” said Don Edwards, the chairman of the board. “I look forward to working with them as we seek to maintain the rich tradition of excellence that has so long been a hallmark of a University of Illinois education.
Most classes begin March 15, and conclude in early May.
“This is a great opportunity for new UIS students to start or finish their education,” said UIS interim chancellor Karen Whitney. “It’s also a chance for current students to add to their course load and potentially earn their degree in a shorter period of time.”
Due to the accelerated nature of the classes, it is recommended that students only enroll in one course.
Accelerated courses will be offered in accounting, athletic training, business, communication, education, educational leadership, human development counseling, management, management information systems, mathematics, and music.
Prospective students can apply for admission through March 10. Current UIS students can register through March 21. All courses are eligible for financial assistance.
