A Fayette County man was convicted last week of first-degree murder and child endangerment in the 2018 death of an infant he was caring for.
Dean Alan Hettinger, 24, of Westgate, will be sentenced in April. He faces life in prison for the death of one-month-old Holten Smith, who was in Hettinger s care when he suffered head trauma.
Hettinger was the boyfriend of Smith s aunt at the time, according to court records. The couple was caring for Smith between April 27, 2018 and April 29, 2018 when the child was abused, according a criminal complaint.
The next day, the couple took the infant to a hospital after he was found twitching, stopped crying and was unresponsive, according to a search warrant.
