The exercise effect: Online sessions help boost netball team during pandemic

That is the message from 21-year-old Team Sunderland Netball President Philippa Nilsen. With outdoor sports venues having to close under England’s lockdown rules, many clubs have turned to online sessions to help boost team morale. Philippa said: “We’ve worked incredibly hard to try and maintain that sense of community and team spirit among the girls. “The University of Sunderland has held weekly online fitness sessions for the club, which have proven very popular with the team, and on top of that we’ve had our own virtual netball training classes. “Asking how they’ve found the online sessions, most of the girls said that little half an hour in their day has just boosted them so much and given them such a relief from the pressures of university, the news and all the chaos that has happened over the last year.”

Birmingham City set to launch new blended learning nursing degree

In a statement released this week, Birmingham City said its pre-registration Master’s degree in Adult Nursing would launch at the beginning of next month. The course is open to applicants who already have a relevant health, science and social science degree plus appropriate work experience in a healthcare setting. Most of the theory is delivered online with practical skills training taking place both on campus and in hospitals and other healthcare settings, said the university. It noted that the degree could be completed in two years to appeal to those who, for reasons such as location, family, work or other commitments, could not commit to the usual three-year course.

Egbedi receives LACA scholarship

Egbedi is working on his doctorate in agronomy with a focus on cover crops and conservation tillage. University of Sunderland celebrates 100 yrs of pharmacy education

It all began in March 1921, when Hope Constance Monica Winch arrived in Sunderland with the ambition to set up the finest pharmacy department in the region. It all started when Hope Winch, left, arrived in Sunderland with the aim of setting up the finest pharmacy department in the region. Jo Xuan Tan, right, is one of the latest graduates Three students and 25 ex-servicemen were the first to attend and thanks to Hope’s vision and determination, over the last century many thousands of young people have studied at the Sunderland School of Pharmacy.
