But these contemporary icons are far from the first influential Black women in history who made lasting change in the United States. The ground-breaking firsts stretch back centuries, beyond Rosa Parks and Katherine Johnson one of the mathematicians for NASA who had a hand in sending Americans to space for the first time. It’s important to remember these women and how they made society what it is today during Black History Month, and all year ‘round.

West Pullman: Teen boy shot after argument - Chicago Sun-Times

Sun-Times file A 17-year-old boy was shot Tuesday morning in West Pullman on the Far South Side. About 10:15 a.m., he was having an argument with a woman in the 12300 block of South Michigan Avenue, when a male approached and shot him with a rifle, Chicago police said. He was struck in the right arm and brought to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, police said. Area Two detectives are investigating. Next Up In Crime

Woman faces attempted murder charge in stabbing of ex-boyfriend By Sun-Times Media Wire Paris White, 34, was arrested after officers found the 31-year-old man with a stab wound, Chicago police said. The stabbing happened during an argument about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 8900 block of South Escanaba Avenue, police said. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. White was charged with a count of attempted first-degree murder and a count of aggravated domestic battery, police said. She was expected in court Thursday.

The 27-year-old was sitting in a parked vehicle about 7 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street when someone opened fire, striking him in the chest, Chicago police said. The man was found unresponsive outside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. In non-fatal shootings, a man was wounded in West Pullman on the Far South Side. Someone shot at the 25-year-old about 9:30 p.m. as he walked in the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue, striking him in the thigh and grazing his elbow, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in good condition.

2 hurt in South Shore shooting

Sun-Times file photo Two men were shot Wednesday during an argument in the South Shore neighborhood. Shortly before 10 a.m., three men were arguing in an alley in the 7600 block of South Kingston Avenue when one of them took out a gun and opened fire, Chicago police said in a media notification. A 39-year-old man was shot in the arm and torso, police said. A 26-year-old man was grazed in his calf. Both of their conditions stabilized at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The shooter got into a dark-colored car and drove northbound, police said. Next Up In Crime
