I do not blame the people who think that it is “illegal” for the Government to order soldiers engaged in “Operation Halt”, to burn the excavators, bulldozers and other equipment seized at galamsey sites.
Politics has been defined as “the art of the possible”, and past Governments, as well as the present one, have been struggling to balance what they find to be a delicate problem concerning the widespread operation of galamsey, with the need not to alienate their supporters.
The NPP Government, for instance, has been trying to entice “small-scale miners” to adopt safe, scientifically-approved mining methods, without success. In 2018, it actually paid miners to go for short-term educational courses, at the University of University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa.
Presidential candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Minister of Railways Development, Joe Ghartey, has received the coveted Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Award.
The Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours was presented to Hon. Ghartey; Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyeremanteng; for Trade and Industry Minister, Ekow Spio-Garbrah.
In all, 15 former and serving ministers of state were honoured at the maiden Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours held in Accra last Saturday.
The other awardees included former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Prof. Joshua Alabi; a former Defence Minister, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor; a former Minister of Information, Nana Akomea; a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hackman Owusu Agyemang; a former Minister of Tourism, Catherine Ablema Afeku; a former Minister of Works and Housing, Kwamena Bartels.

The Daily Guide reports that Edward Effah, Board Chairman of Unilever Ghana PLC, has announced an increase in the company’s revenue for the 2020 financial year.
In the company’s latest financial report, Mr. Effah indicated, “Our results for the year ended 2020 shows a 37 percent increase in revenue from GH¢333 million in 2019 to GH¢456 million in 2020,” indicating that the growth represented sustained momentum throughout the year despite the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
