Two of Roby Thomas’ favorite places are the beach and the wrestling mat so it was only natural to somehow try to bring the two worlds together. On Wednesday, the Central High School senior succeeded.
Thomas, a four-time TSSAA state tournament qualifier, signed scholarship papers to wrestle for Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida where he will wrestle not only for the Seahawks’ mat program, but for former UTC All-SoCon champion Nick Soto, who is in his first year as head coach.

University of the Ozarks administrators and faculty presented the University’s top academic and division awards during the 64
th annual Honors Day ceremony, held Wednesday afternoon via Zoom.
Petron Brown, a theatre and environmental studies major from Nassau, The Bahamas, was the recipient of the 2021 Wiley Lin Hurie Memorial Award, presented to the outstanding senior in the graduating class as voted on by the faculty. The Hurie Award is named in honor of the long-time president of the University and is the highest honor given to an Ozarks student. Brown was also named the Outstanding Student in Theatre.
Brun, Nawa Carry on Fulton’s Legacy in Communication Program

University of the Ozarks seniors Michel Brun and Kevin Nawa were presented with the prestigious Robert Berry Fulton Award in Communication earlier this week, carrying on the great tradition of excellence in the University’s communication program.
The award is named in honor of the late Robert “Bob” Fulton, Jr., a 1942 Ozarks graduate who went on to an illustrious four-decades career as voice of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
Both Brun and Nawa are graduating as part of the Class of 2021 on May 15. Brun is a communication studies major from Haiti and Nawa is a theatre major with a minor in media productions from McKinney, Texas.

“The Nature of Us: Our Way Home,” through May 12 in the Stephens Art Gallery.
There will be an artist’s talk at 5:30 p.m. on May 11, in the Boreham Business Building and a reception to meet the artist from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on May 11 in the gallery, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center.
Johnson, an art major from Oologah, Okla., will graduate with Magna Cum Laude honors from Ozarks on May 15. She was recently named the University’s Outstanding Student in Art for 2021 and had her artwork place third in the 2021 Collegiate Art Competition at the River Valley Arts Center.
