Somerset Schools sets 2021-2022 school calendar

Kyle Lively Somerset Independent Schools approved on Tuesday the calendar for the upcoming school year – giving families a head start on planing for the next several months. The first day for the 2021-2022 school year is August 11, with the last day scheduled for May 20, 2022. Fall Break will be October 4th through the 8th. Christmas vacation begins December 20, and students will not have to go back to school until January 3. Spring Break is scheduled for April 4th through 8th. Various professional development days for teachers are scheduled throughout the year, with several of those – February 21 and March 18, for example – designated as possible school make-up days should classes be canceled anytime before then.

Dance Marathon Overcomes Rises, Raises $1.4 M For UI Stead Family Children s Hospital More than 1,400 current University of Iowa students who participated in the 27th annual student-led Dance Marathon which raised more than $1.4 million for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children s Hospital. The final tally raised by the students who were inspired by the theme of this year s Dance Marathon: Rise with Resilience was $1,422,443.27, a total which pushed the amount of support generated by Dance Marathon over the course of its history to more than $31 million. Recognitions: Achievements and awards Fortenberry receives historical commission award The recent Texas Historical Commission’s Real Places 2021 virtual conference brought together hundreds of individuals and organizations dedicated to protecting and preserving Texas’ historic places and the stories they tell. During the conference, the agency honored worthy recipients for accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the preservation of Texas’ heritage. Sandy Fortenberry of the Lubbock County Historical Commission received the John Ben Shepperd County Historical Commission Leadership Award for her work as “manager, cheerleader, and collaborator” with her members to preserve the county’s history. Lubbock County has received a Distinguished Service Award during each year of her tenure.
