How to talk to kids about the pandemic affecting the holidays

(WXYZ) â With joblessness still high, the pandemic raging across the country with various states of shutdown, Christmas will look a lot different this year.
In a Gallup Poll, more than 25% of Americans say they will spend less on holiday gifts compared to last year. That s the highest number since 2012.
A separate survey from Deloitte shows nearly one third of U.S. households say their financial situation is worse than last year.
It all adds up to difficult conversations for families with less under the tree this year.
Philanthropists Terry and Marion Forcht presented Brad Hall, Vice President of External Affairs at the University of the Cumberlands, with a $200,000 check in support of the Terry & Marion Forcht School of Nursing. The Forcht’s provided $1,000,000 in 2018 for the establishment of the school of nursing. The school provides students with a hands-on state-of-the-art simulation lab and is the home of a variety of programs including RN to BSN, Master’s Degree in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner, certified Nurse Aid course. Marion Forcht was named a member of the Board of Trustees for the University in 2019.

WILLIAMSBURG â During its monthly board meeting Tuesday, the Williamsburg Board of Education approved creating tutoring positions via a private grant through Berea College.
Superintendent Tim Melton explained that because the grant is a private grant, the school district would not have to provide matching funds for the positions and that tutors will be available for elementary, middle, and high school students.
Melton said that he wanted to provide tutors for all three levels because of the different needs each level has.
âThe elementary teacher, it might be bringing students in and theyâre working with students one-to-one, one-to-three whatever is allowable,â he said. âThe middle school students, they might have a different need. Starfires QB to Marian
South Adams quarterback James Arnold announced Sunday evening that he has committed to Marian football.
He completed 67.1% of his passes as a senior for an average of 283.4 yards per game, throwing 47 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. He was named to the Class 1A senior all-state team after leading the Starfires to their first state title game, where they fell by one point against Covenant Christian.
Snider senior defensive back Jonathon McCollough has committed to the University of the Cumberlands. He was an all-SAC honorable mention this season.
