Atom Araullo reveals he originally wanted to become a scientist

Atom Araullo reveals he originally wanted to become a scientist Published May 6, 2021 5:26pm Growing up, Atom Araullo did not dream of being a journalist. In fact, he wanted to become a scientist. In an episode of “The Howie Severino Podcast,” Atom revealed that although he studied applied physics in college, he eventually became a journalist. Atom said he had always been fascinated with science as a child, even in Grade 3 when he became one of the young reporters on the renowned kids’ television show “5 and Up.” “Maybe it had something to do with all of the books that were at home. Not just children’s books, adventure books, but also encyclopedias and some magazines [that] we were freely able to read when I was a kid, me and my sister,” he said.

This situation is not ironic but is precisely a feature of an imperialist system’s academic component. In August 2008, Garcellano published an essay entitled “The Philippines as Yugoslavia Revisited.” He combines the approaches of cultural studies, geopolitics and political economy in critiquing scholasticism, US imperialist war, the Philippine client state and the China Syndrome. Instead of constructing horizons of discursive containment, Garcellano uses a holistic approach that connects intellectual currents and histories with a global analysis that is keen on the national question, which, in turn, is shaped by class analysis.
