CALOOCAN CITY, March 14 (PIA) The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law has welcomed Professor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II as its new Dean, following a thorough selection process and upon his appointment by the Board of Regents to lead the country’s premier law school.
In a recently held meeting, the Board of Regents the highest governing body in the UP System announced Vistan as the new Dean topping the shortlisted nominees for the College deanship.
Aside from a careful assessment of the nominees’ qualifications, the University Search Committee for the Deanship of the UP College of Law organized several public and sectoral forums. Copies of the nomination letters, academic and teaching background of the candidates, along with their mission and vision statements, were made available to the public to ensure inclusivity and transparency in the selection process.

DAVAO CITY – Before the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic over a year ago, health authorities here announced that they were monitoring travelers from China following the outbreak of a “mysterious disease.” On Jan. 7, 2020, Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Abdullah Dumama bared in a press conference that while there was no ban imposed on travelers from China, they were told by the DOH Central Office in Manila to closely monitor travelers from China.
“We were told by the Secretary (Francisco Duque III) that we need to be screening and tightly monitoring those coming from China,” he said.
TAGUIG CITY, March 13 As intellectual property (IP) filings dropped in 2020 amid COVID-19 challenges, the IP Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) recently held a dialogue with partners in the academe, urging them to fuel the recovery of filings by focusing this year on commercializing fresh innovations.
In its KaIPhan with Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSOs) last month, IPOPHL Director General Rowel S. Barba and Documentation, Information and Technology Transfer Bureau (DITTB) Director Mary Grace Cruz-Yap opened the floor for ITSOs to raise concerns on processes that need to be addressed so as to hasten turnaround times in registration.
Barba assured that IPOPHL has continuous efforts to streamline its processes.
The independent research group crunching the numbers on COVID-19 cases in the Philippines said that daily new infections could reach 20,000 by April, according to a report on “24 Oras Weekend.”
