PUP president denies NPA recruitment hub claims; calls for unity and protection

Antonio Parlade, Jr., spokesman of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), recently claimed that PUP and several other universities in the country are being used by the NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), as recruitment grounds. In a Facebook live broadcast on Monday, Muhi said the university works hand-in-hand with the government in producing topnotch graduates. “Uulitin ko na hindi tayo isang recruitment hub ng NPA (I will repeat that we are not a recruitment hub for the NPA),” he said.

Reviving the 12-yearlong abandoned community in Basilan

AFP names acting intel chief amid ongoing probe on erroneous red-tagging list

endIndex: Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 31) - The Armed Forces of the Philippines designated on Sunday the acting deputy chief-of-staff for intelligence amid the ongoing probe on the erroneous list that tagged some University of the Philippines alumni as members of the New People’s Army. AFP spokesperson Edgard Arevalo confirmed on Sunday that BGen. Charles Gaerlan will be the acting intelligence chief. Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana earlier sacked then intelligence chief MGen. Alex Luna following the publication of the list. Moreover, the AFP also said that BGen. Gabriel Viray is named as the acting civil military operations chief. The post was formerly held by MGen. Benedict Arevalo, who was also relieved after his office posted on Facebook the list of UP alumni allegedly captured and killed after joining the communist group.
