Jerry Paular fondly remembered the Filipino farmhands he grew up with. They were so well-groomed and well-dressed, he said, that “you would think they were movie stars.”
“They wore suits that were just unbelievable,” Paular, a traveling suit salesman, once recalled. “They would never go to a store and buy a $20 suit and hit the streets. These guys came out looking like movie actors. And yet, they were common laborers.”

Carolyn McArdle was working at the University of the Pacific this past weekend as a PA Announcer for the Golden Coast Conference Water Polo match between Fresno State and UOP and a mama duck and her babies decided to take a swim in the pool in the middle of the game!
The players had to stop play and take a timeout while the mama and her ducklings made their way across the pool, totally oblivious to the fact that they had just interrupted a semi-final match!

Sammie Sublett, 17, is Player of the Year for the Valley League as a member of the Bulldogs’ varsity volleyball team and has been named First Team All League Player the past two years. Now she’s on her way to play volleyball for University of the Pacific in Stockton with a scholarship.
The lifelong Ramona resident readily shares credit for her successes with others.
“I just don’t think I could have done it without my teammates and coaches,” said Sammie, who signed her pledge to attend University of the Pacific on April 21. “I’m excited to play the next four years and to get more experience.”

“We are distant cousins. We knew each other and had seen each other and were aware of the obvious age difference.”
But that didn’t put a damper on their love story. Dr. Arif Alvi admitted he is a bit of a traditional romantic at heart. The president would pen letters to his better half.

New developments in Smart case
Kristin Smart’s haunting disappearance continued to make headlines around the world last week, with a father-son duo pleading not guilty Monday after a dramatic break in the nearly 25-year-old case led to their arrests the week before.
Though Ruben Flores, 80, father of prime suspect Paul Flores, 44, has been released on $50,000 bail, Denise and Stan Smart, who live in Stockton, filed a lawsuit in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court alleging that Smart’s body was buried in Ruben Flores’ backyard and he moved the body “under cover of darkness” to another location a few days after investigators searched his property in February 2020.
