Cott named 25th Judicial District judge
Governor s Office release
TOPEKA - Governor Laura Kelly Monday appointed Kristi Cott, Garden City, to the 25th Judicial District vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Ricklin Pierce.
“Kristi is a dedicated, professional, and knowledgeable attorney with extensive experience in the judicial system,” Gov. Kelly said. “I am confident Kristi’s experience and her commitment to the law will serve the 25th Judicial District well.”
Cott has been in private practice in Garden City since 2020, representing clients in criminal defense and guardianship and conservatorship cases. She began her career as an Assistant Public Defender, then became an Assistant County Attorney in Finney County before going into private practice. Cott is a member of the Kansas Bar Association and has been active through various bar associations in the past as well.

Child protection advocates are worried that the COVID-19 pandemic led to a spike in child-abuse cases in South Dakota and that the abuse of children was more severe than in the past.
They are also concerned that the pandemic led to an increase in child-on-child abuse that was more rare prior to the arrival of the coronavirus.
It is time for the annual graduation open houses and celebrations. NâWest Iowa celebrates high school graduations with more gusto than I remember from my South Dakota high school years. Theyâre always fun and festive even if you know the parents much better than you know the graduates.
It also is the high school and college reunion season. My wife received an e-mail this week saying her high school graduating class will hold their 60th reunion this fall. Connie is a graduate of the public schools in Yankton, SD. She began her grade school education attending a small, four-room rural building a few blocks from her familyâs East Yankton home. She eventually transferred to the larger facility in the heart of town. Public education in the Yankton area, and across the Midwest, has greatly changed in just her lifetime.
