HATTIUESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi once again found itself hanging around after one half of basketball, trailing the visiting University of North Texas by six points at the break Friday night.
But the Mean Green started the second half with an 11-1 run and the Golden Eagles never could recover in a 65-49 Conference USA loss at Reed Green Coliseum.

In the late 1940s, famed French photojournalist Henri Cartier-Bresson documented the last days of China’s Nationalist government, before Mao Tse-Tung and the communists seized power. True to form, Cartier-Bresson produced striking images of a dramatic historical moment – such as a crowd desperately packed together outside a Shanghai bank, and a group of Nationalist military recruits in Beijing’s Forbidden City.
In a sense, Cartier-Bresson could take those photos because he was French. The U.S. had strongly supported the Nationalists and, knowing they were widely reviled, virtually no Americans remained in China at the time. But a brave French photojournalist more plausibly could stay on, and France wanted to remain central to world affairs through such relationships.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) â University of Southern Mississippi senior forward Ariel Diaz named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 13.
It marked the first time Diaz had been accorded a weekly honor by the conference and she became the first Lady Eagle to earn the weekly recognition this season.

Among firearm-owning individuals who died by suicide, handgun ownership was associated with greater odds of having died by self-inflicted gunshot wound rather than by another method, according to a Rutgers researcher.
The study, published in the Archives of Suicide Research, surveyed surviving loved ones of 121 handgun and shotgun owners who died by suicide – 93 of whom died with a firearm and 28 who died through other means – and asked about the numbers and types of firearms the individuals had and the circumstances of their deaths.
