Sex education experts have criticised the federal governmentâs new respectful relationships teaching resource for not introducing consent until year 10, as early childhood educators say the concept should be taught to toddlers.
Playgroups Victoria chief executive Danny Schwarz is among those pushing for gender equality and respect to be taught in the formative first 1000 days of childrenâs lives as part of community-wide gendered violence and sexual abuse prevention.
Brea Kunstler says it is important that her 18 month-old daughter, Abby, is able to observe positive messages about respectful relationships. They attended Playgroup Victoria sessions online during the pandemic.
International student enrolments hit record highs and staggering lows

The University of Queensland has enrolled a record number of international students in 2021, defying predictions that closed borders and negative messaging from the Chinese government would dampen demand.
Enrolments of overseas students surged past 2019’s record to reach 18,000 at the beginning of 2021, up from 14,900 in 2020 and 16,600 at the same time in 2019.
Young people don’t want to put their lives on hold forever, says Deborah Terry.

UQ has also seen a 50 per cent increase of Chinese students compared with 2020, with numbers rising from 7466 to 11,265. That is also well above 2019’s figure of 8995.

Thirty years after sweeping reforms were recommended to end the injustice of Indigenous deaths in Australian custody, a spate of recent fatalities and soaring rates of Aboriginal incarceration have highlighted failures to act.
Jailing children as young as 10, persistent racist attitudes and tough law-and-order policies all contribute to what has been called as a national shame by Aboriginal leaders.
More than 450 Indigenous fatalities have been recorded since the landmark Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody was published in 1991, including five since early March.
Directors and designers can collaborate remotely in a virtual space.
iDesign allows directors and designers to test out their ideas in the digital twin of the entire theatre environment.
UNSW Sydney Scientia Professor and Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Fellow Dennis Del Favero at UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture is leading the development of the iDesign platform, enabling the creation of a digital twin of a real theatre production design.
The revolutionary prototyping platform assisted Sydney Theatre Company (STC) in the early stages of developing a production while the theatre itself was still under construction. The production, Playing Beatie Bow, launched STC’s newly renovated Wharf Theatre at Walsh Bay Sydney in February.
