PITTSBURGH, May 7, 2021 - In a paper published today in
Nature Communications, an international group of collaborators led by researchers at UPMC Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh have identified a genetic cause of a rare neurological disorder marked by developmental delay and loss of coordination, or ataxia.
The disorder, scientists found, is caused by mutations in a protein called GEMIN5 one of the key building blocks of a protein complex that controls RNA metabolism in neurons. No mutations in GEMIN5 were previously linked to any genetic disease.

In March 2019, Hancock lived at 2006 Monroe Street, Apartment No. 1 located in Swissvale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania 15218. Ms. Hancock’s apartment was owned and operated by Lockwood Management LLC. At that time, Judy Pison, was the property manager of 2006 #1 Monroe Street.

School district spending and keeping students safe are among issues raised by the nine candidates seeking nominations for four seats on the Norwin School Board in the May 18 primary.
The race features two incumbents, two separate teams of candidates and two candidates running independently of the others. All of the candidates have cross-filed in their bids for the nominations and all live in North Huntingdon.
Brian Carlton, 41, board president, and Raymond Kocak, 57, are the incumbents running for reelection to second terms. Two other incumbents decided not to run Tony Corsa, who was appointed to the board in December 2019, and Donald Rhodes, who opted not to seek a fifth term.

SHREVEPORT â A team of scientists and clinicians at LSU Health Shreveport, collaborating across the Centers for Brain Health and Cardiovascular Diseases and Sciences, had their groundbreaking findings on a new blood biomarker for Alzheimerâs disease and related dementia published in the prestigious âAlzheimerâs & Dementia, The Journal of the Alzheimerâs Associationâ.
