Bridging the talent gap: STEM job fair planned for Thursday

There are lots of science, technology, engineering and math-related jobs available in New Mexico, but companies seeking potential employees need better ways to connect with STEM professionals. To help bridge the divide, the University of New Mexico’s Alumni Association and STEM Boomerang which works to hook up in-state and out-of-state STEM professionals with local employers will offer a STEM-focused career fair Thursday for UNM alumni, students approaching graduation, and their spouses and partners. The online event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature presentations by 17 companies looking for talented employees in the space, biotechnology and general technology industries in New Mexico.

Lujan Grisham and confirmed by the State Senate to serve on Boards of Regents at public colleges, universities, and special schools across the state. “This year’s cadre of regents includes individuals with a high level of experience and enthusiasm for higher education, which will be key for guiding our state institutions forward in the coming years,” Higher Education Department Secretary Stephanie Rodriguez said. “We look forward to collaborating with them and all higher education leadership to ensure that New Mexico’s students and schools succeed.”

With special guest Dean Harris Smith of the College of Fine Arts, Alumni leadership share stories, first-hand experiences and discuss musical influence on Black culture and how Afrofuturism is helping the world to mend.  The event begins at 6 p.m. Lobo Living Room features notable UNM alumni discussing, demonstrating or performing in their areas of expertise.
