The American Psychological Association has issued new guidelines spelling out how traditional masculinity is harmful to men and boys for the purpose of helping the psychologists who work with them. The guidelines have already drawn considerable criticism.
The professional guidelines, which reportedly took 13 years to develop, are the first of their kind that the group has published for clinicians for working with men and boys.
The APA relies on 40 years of research showing that traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful and that socializing boys to suppress their emotions causes damage that echoes both inwardly and outwardly, the January 2019 press release explains.

New Mexico reinstates requirement for jobless to seek work

SANTA FE, New Mexico New Mexico has joined several other states that have reinstated the work search requirement for people who receive unemployment payments.
Starting this week, state labor officials said claimants must verify that they have made at least two work search contacts per week to continue receiving the jobless payments. They must provide information on when they contacted employers about prospective jobs, what type of work it was and other details.
The requirement had been waived during the pandemic as unemployment rates surged due to businesses closures and cutbacks to meet the state s public health restrictions. The change came as all but two New Mexico counties are now operating in the categories with the least Covid-19 restrictions.
