The economic recovery in Kansas appears to have been largely unaffected by the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic, as the state collected more in taxes than expected.
Gov. Laura Kelly announced Monday that the state s general fund received $60 million more in total tax receipts than expected in July. Our July tax collection numbers are encouraging, but we must maintain fiscally-responsible policies to ensure our continued growth, Kelly said in a statement.
The extra money beat the estimate by 11%, totaling $602.6 million collected in taxes last month. Consumer spending on goods and services has not slowed down. . Our economists are watching closely to determine if the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant will impact what has been a strong economic recovery in Kansas, Revenue Secretary Mark Burghart said in a statement.
