Four-State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference goes virtual

maq123/iStock/Thinkstock Discussions will cover energy systems for dairy cows, nutrition, lactation and a variety of other animal health topics. The 2021 Four-State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference is going virtual this year. The event, to be held June 9-10, will allow attendees to learn the latest information in dairy nutrition and management but in a new format designed to improve participant experience. Live morning sessions were designed to promote interaction and discussion between the participants and speakers. All presentations will be pre-recorded and will be made available to participants for viewing before the conference and for 60 days after the conference. General sessions will also have a live component with speakers providing a five-minute live summary of their recorded presentation. This will be followed by a 45-minute to one-hour question and discussion period between session speakers and participants. Participants are encouraged

Summer Beef Essentials: Extending the grazing season

Wright University of Minnesota Extension is excited to host a six-part Summer Beef Essentials webinar series. This series will address how to prepare for parasite and fly control, summer stressors on the cow herd, pasture and weed management, and practices to help producers extend the grazing season. Farmers, 4-H members, ag business professionals who work with farmers, and those interested in beef cows are invited to attend. May 27: Extending the grazing season Topics: Options to extend the grazing season through practices such as grazing cover crops and crop residues, use of stockpiled forages, perennial grass, standing corn, and millet. We’ll also discuss soil fertility recycling, improving forage utilization, how to use perennial grass to improve grazing distribution and considerations for water access and fencing within crop fields.
