Anita and Bill Donnell - wedding
Anita Grace and Bill Donnell dated for a year, broke up for four, and then sent letters that crossed in the mail, ultimately bringing them back together for good.
They met when Anita visited First Baptist Church in Little Rock for an evening service with her roommate in the fall 1966. Bill and a friend came over to talk with them, and Anita recognized Bill as someone who had dated another of her roommates while they lived in the dorm at their nursing school.
Bill invited Anita to get coffee that night after church.
He was working for Jack Tyler Engineering then, and Anita had recently graduated from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. They started dating regularly, going together to a livestock show, movies, restaurants, sporting events and more.
Rain or shine, the Belton Fourth of July Parade will go on.
The popular annual event, which became a virtual event during the coronavirus crisis last year, returns to the streets of Belton this morning despite a 70 percent chance of rain by the paradeâs start.
At 9 a.m., before the parade, a 30-minute patriotic program will be held on the steps of the Bell County Courthouse, 101 E. Central Ave. in Belton.
âThis is the traditional way to start the parade,â Randy Pittenger, president of the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce, told the Telegram.
The program will include a color guard from Fort Hood, along with the singing of the National Anthem by the Belton High School Madrigal, the schoolâs show choir. A Scout troop will lead the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and state Rep. Hugh Shine, R-Temple, will give the invocation.
Prior to the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Killeen Independent School District announced a number of staff changes â including the resignation of one deputy superintendent.
Superintendent John Craft named Nicole Koch Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives and Accountability and John Hocking as the Executive Director of Technology Services, according to a news release issued Wednesday.
Koch, a former teacher at Sugar Loaf and Saegert Elementary schools, was most recently the districtâs Special Projects Assistant to assistant superintendents, and tasked with developing the Teacher Incentive Allotment Program for the district.
Koch holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, in Belton, a Master of Business Administration from Texas Womanâs University, in Denton, and a Master of Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
