David Jaewon Oh The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announces new guidelines that state you don’t need to wear a mask outdoors if you’re running on your own or with members of your household, except in certain crowded settings and venues. The guidelines also state that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people should continue wearing a mask during indoor activities including going to the gym or to a workout class. While you don’t need to wear a mask or face covering when running outside, it’s best to still bring one with you in the case of an emergency or unplanned event.

Here is what it means for cyclists. David Marcozzi, MD, was  named senior vice president and chief clinical officer (CCO) for the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) and will report to Bert W. O’Malley, MD, president and CEO of UMMC. As CCO, Marcozzi will lead evidence-based programs, practices and activities and establish clear processes to monitor performance against stated goals and assure accountability for performance as measured by quality, service and financial outcomes. Presently, Marcozzi serves as the University of Maryland Medical System – University of Maryland, Baltimore Unified Incident Commander for the COVID-19 response, a role he will continue to fill.  In addition, he has a prominent role in the state as the COVID-19 medical adviser to Gov. Larry Hogan.

University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health (UM UCH) has appointed Jo Anne Thomson, MN, RN-BC, CPXP, as vice president of patient experience. Thomson comes to UM UCH after 21 years at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, also a University of Maryland Medical System hospital. For the past six years she served as director of patient experience, where she expanded the role to include strategic direction, leadership and regional oversight for improving the patient experience. She implemented a comprehensive service excellence approach called HEART that focused on several areas including team building and supporting and sustaining a culture of caring and accountability. Thomson also led “best practice” initiatives such as rounding, bedside shift report, employee recognition, service recovery and discharge. In addition, she leveraged technology to support and enhance patient experience in such areas as interpretative services and connecting patients and familie
