While Canada’s vaccine supply is growing, so is speculation about and pushback against requiring vaccinations on campuses.  Last week, the University of Western Ontario was the first major Canadian post-secondary institution to announce its intention to implement a mandatory vaccination policy for all students planning to live in residence this fall.  Queen’s should do the same. Western also stated that students who must opt out for reasons protected under the Human Rights Code can do so by applying for an accommodation.   Western’s vaccination policy is a necessity. Students living in residences deserve to feel safe, and a vaccine mandate protects all students living on campus, including those who are medically unable to receive a vaccine themselves.
