Iryna Gould admits to losing her confidence and taking more than a decade out of education after being told she didn’t have the talent to compose. Now, though, she is now in her final year studying for a BMus (Hons) Songwriting and Recording at the London College of Music (LCM). She composed a full ballet, writing all 11 suites and even travelling to her home city of Kiev to have the piece recorded by the Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

BBC Radio Three has pledged to play more music from composers from ethnic minority backgrounds - who bosses say have been unfairly forgotten .
