SANFORD, Maine – Sanford High School senior Aislynn K. Worden is a semifinalist in the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
At the high school on Wednesday, Worden said she was surprised when she got the news last fall.
“I still am,” she added.
Worden is one of only seven seniors in Maine named in a recent U.S. Department of Education announcement about those being considered for the program.
She joins Harshini K. Chaganti, of Scarborough High School; Devon Michael Hunter, of John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor; Pedro Santiago Little-Siebold, of Ellsworth High School; Culiandra Rose Nero, of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; Swetha Palaniappan, of Cape Elizabeth High School; and Wade F. Wahlig, of Falmouth High School.

Cape sailor is public affairs officer of the year
Lt. Lauren Chatmas of Cape Elizabeth, public affairs officer for Destroyer Squadron Seven, has received the Thompson-Ravitz Award for U.S. Navy’s Junior Public Affairs Officer for her contributions during 2020.
The Thompson-Ravitz Awards for Excellence promote professional expertise and recognize the most exceptional performance and excellence in public affairs throughout the Navy.
Chatmas was commissioned in 2011. Following two sea tours on USS Porter and USS Lassen, she was stationed at the Pentagon, where she laterally transferred to the Navy’s public affairs community.

AUBURN Bringing extensive experience as an educator and a proven aptitude toward engaging students, Alanna Stevenson has been named the new principal of Saint Dominic Academy for the Auburn and Lewiston campuses.
Stevenson has been the principal of St. Dom’s Lewiston campus for the past two years.
The announcement is part of a new leadership structure being adopted by the academy to ensure that the most efficient organizational model is in place and that all opportunities to build proactively for the academy’s future will be fully explored. Timothy Gallic, who has overseen the academy since August 2019, has left his position to pursue new opportunities.
