Here s how Louisiana s new broadband official plans to take on state connectivity issues
Ken Stickney
Veneeth Iyengar s first week on the job as executive director of Louisiana s Broadband Development and Connectivity has him wide-eyed over some imminent challenges.
Iyengar met Tuesday with local and state elected officials to take the measure of connectivity and found a mixed bag here, from highly functional Lafayette to less connected Opelousas and Ville Platte; the latter one of the five least-served places in the country. The Acadiana Regional Commission hosted the meeting at the Lafayette Economic Development Authority.
In his new role, Iyengar, former assistant chief administrative officer for East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, is Louisiana s lead coordinator for addressing challenges around broadband accessibility and affordability.

UL Spring Commencement Ceremonies Set for May 14 & 15
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will celebrate Spring 2021 Commencement ceremonies over two days this spring at Cajun Field and Russo Park.
Undergraduate and graduate degrees will be conferred during individual ceremonies for the school s eight academic colleges and its Graduate School. Ceremonies for six academic colleges are set for Friday, May 14 while ceremonies for two academic colleges and the Graduate School will be held the next day.
In the past, graduates are celebrated at ceremonies for their respective colleges along with a General Assembly held at the Cajundome. However, just like the Fall 2020 Commencement, individual college ceremonies will be held at outdoor venues to ensure the health and safety of attendees. No General Assembly will be held.
