Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland steps down. What happens next?
The Daytona Beach News-Journal
Public service is hard, and many elected officials struggle to balance the needs of their own families against their civic duties. That painful conflict was very evident in Tuesday night’s Facebook post by Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland.
“As you know my daughter has been through some extraordinarily challenging years healthwise that at times became so serious that the outcome could of been very different than what it is today,” Holland wrote. “For all of the prayers, support and words of encouragement that continued to pour in throughout this trying time, I want to say Thank You. …. As her primary caregiver and of course her Mom, I began the process of assessing and evaluating where I must spend my time and focus and that is right by her side. So it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to step down from my role as mayor of the city of Palm Coast.”

Curry, who has championed the proposal to raise the gas tax from 6 cents to 12 cents to address infrastructure needs and bring jobs to the area, was asked about the upcoming vote and the parallels to the failed Lot J deal.
“I think it’s time for them to make a decision,” Curry said of the council. “And as I’ve said before, push the red or the green button. I hope it’s the green button and the majority. I think this is big for Jacksonville and I feel good about the direction it’s headed. But you never know. I’ve been down this road before.”
