Officials on Wednesday said that they have a lot of flexibility remaining at the hospital in terms of bed space and can move staff around as needed to treat those who contract the disease. The hospital is currently treating regular medical and emergency patients as well as those who have COVID, although the latter are isolated. The number of people reported as hospitalized at UVa for COVID increased from about 40 last week to nearly 60 this week. The number of patients varies from day-to-day depending on how many are admitted or discharged.

(WVIR) - A Verona man has been charged in connection with a stabbing investigation in the Shenandoah Valley. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday, Decemeber 24, that 27-year-old Taylor Reed has been charged with malicious wounding. The suspect is currently being held without bound at Middle River Regional Jail. Authorities say the victim, a 31-year-old woman, suffered from stab wounds to the back and neck but has since been released from the hospital.

(WVIR) - The Virginia State Police says charges are pending in connection with a crash in Madison County that killed a Baltimore woman. VSP says a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado crossed a double-solid yellow centerline on Route 231 around 1:40 p.m. Monday, December 21, and collided head-on with a 2015 Hyundai Veloster. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 59-year-old Luray man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Hyundai, a 31-year-old woman, died while in transport to the hospital. Her identity is being withheld pending a next of kin notification.

North Homes hires new staff to support PRTF

North Homes Children and Family Services is now partnering with Grand Itasca to provide medical and psychiatry oversight to the new Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) to open spring 2021. Dr. Bruce Tanenbaum, will act as the PRTF Medical Director.  While primarily working for Grand Itasca as a Psychiatry provider, he has contracted with North Homes Children and Family Services to provide psychiatric oversight for the 52-bed facility.  The PRTF will serve Serious & Emotionally Disturbed children ages 11 to 21 who require intensive psychiatric care and mental health therapy in a residential setting with 24/7 nursing support, while keeping kids connected to their family and community.
