Titled “Auburn Nursing – Living the Creed During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” the book includes stories of Auburn-educated nurses who worked both in their hometowns and places including New York to care for COVID-19 patients. The stories show the difficulty of working in an overwhelming situation, said nursing dean Gregg Newschwander. “At Auburn, we often say, we make leaders,” he said in a statement. “In this book, you will see how true that is.” The university statement said the nursing school marked its 40th anniversary during the 2019-20 academic year, and stories began coming in about the work being done by Auburn alumni during the pandemic. Free community COVID-19 testing extended to early January December 22, 2020 More information Additional days of free COVID-19 testing will be available to the general public at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in early January under a partnership between UW–Madison, the University of Wisconsin System and the federal government. Nearly 20,000 tests have been provided so far to the general public at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium through the program, which began Nov. 12. Testing is by appointment at doineedacovid19test.com and results are available in as little as 15 minutes. The testing was originally scheduled to run through late December. UW–Madison is now extending it to Jan. 4-7 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. After that, the university will need to use the testing site for Safer Badgers, an expanded campus testing program for the spring semester. Photo by Jeramey Jannene. I first started thinking about prisons during my early years in the Assembly, more than 50 years ago. I believed then, and I believe now, that we need to give people who have committed a crime a second chance. I’ve been thinking more about this lately as I reflect on my accomplishments in political life and as I work to renew the Wisconsin Idea for the 21st century as president of the University of Wisconsin System. It’s clear to me now that our state hasn’t done enough to give prisoners another shot at a good life, and it’s equally clear that the UW has an opportunity to offer a solution.
