Report finds UW System competitiveness threatened by financial challenges

Report finds UW System competitiveness threatened by financial challenges A new report indicates the tuition freeze imposed on the University of Wisconsin System has led to many financial challenges. The Wisconsin Policy Forum report says the tuition freeze is choking off a stream of new revenue. It also says the flagship campus in Madison is slipping behind its competitors as a major research institution, and campus buildings are starting to deteriorate. The Policy forum also found that stagnant state funding and declining enrollment have added to difficulties for the UW System and Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). Wisconsin PFAS Action Council Releases PFAS Action Plan

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources today announced the release of a statewide PFAS Action Plan created to address growing public health and environmental concerns regarding PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in Wisconsin.    The PFAS Action Plan was developed by the Wisconsin PFAS Action Council (WisPAC), a group of nearly 20 state agencies and the University of Wisconsin System. As part of the statewide initiative to ensure Wisconsinites have access to clean, safe drinking water, Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #40 in August 2019 to address the issue of PFAS across the state. Executive Order #40 also directed the DNR to lead a group of state agencies to build an action plan to serve as a blueprint for how Wisconsin can address the use of and contamination from these forever chemicals.

It’s been anything but normal, and for some first-year students, finding a sense of community on campus has been hampered by heavy restrictions on social gatherings. Mental health experts say that isolation is a problem and has contributed to a myriad of anxieties faced by students. Mackenzie Miner moved three hours from her hometown of Oconomowoc to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in late August. At the time, she told WPR she wasn’t worried about the university closing due to outbreaks of COVID-19.
