N.C. A&T Joins National Group Focused On Student Success by Neal Charnoff Courtesy N.C. A&T
North Carolina A&T is one of two new members joining a group of universities focused on building student success rates.
N.C. A&T and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County have both been selected to join The University Innovation Alliance.
The consortium was founded with eleven members in 2014 to help grow the retention and graduation rates, particularly among low-income and minority students. It’s expanding for the first time in six years after significantly exceeding its projected goals.
According to a news release, the Alliance’s next phase will adopt a focus on eliminating disparities based on race and ethnicity, while increasing its commitment to addressing income, generational, and ethnic inequities.
Northern New Mexico College, one of five institutions participating in a regional partnership to achieve operational efficiencies
Higher education in the United States was in trouble long before the pandemic hit. The skyrocketing cost of attendance, the student debt crisis, the perceived lack of institutional responsiveness to workforce needs and the advent of convenient, contemporary alternatives have been among key factors sowing skepticism about the value of the traditional college degree.
Those challenges, along with shifting demographics, were already taking a toll on enrollments across the nation, resulting in many colleges and universities facing existential crises before the lockdown. Regional four-year institutions were anticipated to take the biggest hit.

For years, higher education institutions across the nation have been turning to analytics to manage unpredictable enrollment and rising recruitment costs. According to a report by the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research, 69 percent of post-secondary schools were already using some form of data analytics as early as 2012.
Although graduate enrollment increased by 4.3% compared to spring 2020, the pandemic and a constrained federal budget have introduced new uncertainties for university enrollment in the years ahead.
In a private press panel convened by Othot earlier this year, higher education leaders from Arkansas Tech University, Ashland University in Ohio and St. Mary’s College of Maryland gathered to share how data analytics has helped them buffer unpredictable enrollment at their respective institutions.
