Information Literacy Microcourse: An Introduction

Posted by Angela Brcka for University Libraries Engineering librarian Edward Eckel will give a short overview of the new Information Literacy Microcourse in Elearning. This introduction is for faculty, instructors and graduate students. The Microcourse will provide asynchronous instructional modules in forming a research question, creating a search strategy, and accessing journal articles and books through the University Libraries website.

Date Time Southern Cross to continue studying and working online Southern Cross University will remain in ‘study/work from home’ mode for an additional week in line with the latest COVID restrictions. Essential activity practicals and lab work that cannot be done online are the only exceptions for in-person visits to the Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Gold Coast campuses. The University Libraries and Student Hubs will remain open in a scaled-back capacity. Where possible, students are encouraged to engage online with those services. Mr Allan Morris, Vice President (Operations), thanked the Southern Cross community for its flexibility. “We deeply appreciate the efforts students and staff are making to comply with the public health orders and the understanding you have of Southern Cross’s desire to keep these important decisions uniform across all campuses, in two states,” said Mr Morris.

Archivist Elected to Lead Statewide Organization : University of Dayton, Ohio

Archivist Elected to Lead Statewide Organization University of Dayton associate archivist Amy Rohmiller was elected vice president/president-elect of the Society of Ohio Archivists (SOA) at the organization’s June meeting.  Rohmiller has served as a member of SOA’s advocacy and outreach committee since 2018 and as a member of the SOA Council since 2019.  “I am excited to build upon my knowledge and experiences within SOA,” Rohmiller shared. “It feels as though we are truly beginning a new chapter due to the many changes around us all.” Her election coincides with SOA’s pivot to a virtual annual meeting in response to COVID-19 and the formation of a task force on social justice and Black Lives Matter. 

Renewal of academic information system after 36 years

Credit: © National Institute of Informatics National Institute of Informatics (NII; Director General: Dr. KITSUREGAWA Masaru, Tokyo, Japan) has begun reconstruction of NACSIS-CAT/ILL, a catalog information service used by more than 1,300 institutions, mainly university libraries. This project is based on The Vision on Future Scholarly Information Systems (2019) , which was published by the Future Scholarly Information Systems Committee 1 under the Council for Promoting Collaboration between University Libraries and the National Institute of Informatics 2. The project will be implemented by coordinating with library systems of the user libraries, with a view to establishing a library system and network which will handle digitized resources, such as electronic journals and eBooks (Figure 1).
